How-to Use Popchrom Text Expander For Google Chrome

You're AWESOME! for sharing my post? Thank you so much.

Popchrom

First let me ask how many of you are using logoGoogle Chrome?

For those of you who are using Google chrome, there’s a great little tool that should make life a bit easier, it’s called Popchrom, text expander. I will tell you a bit more about this very helpful tool.

I spend hours on the web responding to people on Twitter, my readers on my blog and a number of other social media websites and you know that can be over whelming to keep up with.

The Popchrom text expander- will help you to keep up with all that typing you normally do by allowing you to store your preloaded text in the Popchrom text expander tool, within your web browser.

This is a simple Google chrome extension- that will place this tool at the top right hand corner of your web browser.

First thing you’ll need to do is add the Popchrom text expander to your Google chrome web browser, you can download it here. Popchrom download.

Once it has been installed you can begin configuring it to allow you to store your preloaded text.

Popchrom expander

In the left hand section of the expander tool you’ll see a number of text fields this is were you can add your -Abbreviations for the text you would like to preload.

Example: Let’s say I wanted to thank someone for following me on Twitter, I would simply add the following.

Add the TW- abbreviation in the left text box, you can use lower case letters if you prefer it’s much easier to remember that way, now add your text in the text box shown below within the expander.

On the right you’ll see another text field this one will be a bit larger so you can add your message. Just type in your Twitter message that you want to send to your follower as shown below.

After you have added your text in each text box just click on the ( save button ) to store your messages.

Each time you want to add a new text box just click on the ( add tab ), on the right hand section of the Popchrom tool to add additional fields.

Popchrom Configure

How to use Popchrom Extender:

Place the cursor before, in or after your abbreviations and hit your defined shortcut (default ‘Ctrl + Space’) to expand them.

You could save your new keys with your ‘Ctrl + s’ or by hitting the save button.

Are you using Popchrom Expander and how is it working for you?

    • Hello Brenda, it’s a great tool to have when you are always responding to tweets and other message like I do. It saves a lot of typing and allows me to respond a lot quicker.

There’re other text expanders but some are payed ones. Being this one is for Google Chrome, I don’t mine using it.

Are you also using Google Chrome?

Thanks so much for stopping by it’s always a pleasure. Have a wonderful day.

      • I can understand wanting to save time for sure. Yes, I LOVE Google Chrome. I find it can be quirky at times but other than that I love the extensions and am a big user of quite a few.

        • I was using Firefox for a long time but started having a lot of trouble with it. I then moved over to Google Chrome and never looked back.

Chrome is a lot faster then any other web browser I’ve use so seeing I love Google I think I’ll stick with it.

Let me know if you add it and how it works for you.

Have a wonderful day Brenda and a great weekend.

  2. Useful gadget, Rob.
Google Chrome adept here. Started of with Chromium under Ubuntu and now Chrome. Awesome plugins for that browser and quick as a hotrod on meth…
I don’t know about the pre-fab messages though. It feels like sending a pre-fab “I love you” sms to your gf…

    • LOL I hear ya Jan, glad you like it I’ve been using it for sometime now
There’s not much to configure is pretty simple and works GREAT.

That’s what I really enjoy about Google Chrome is all the extensions you can add. I mean I only have a few but the ones I have installed I get good use of.

Have you had any problems with Chrome in the past few weeks?

Thanks so much for stopping by my friend always a pleasure.

  3. Wow. This is really interesting. Would save a lot of time in typing those sentences again and again. Also, since chrome is the most widely used web browser today, this would help millions of chrome users especially bloggers ;) Thanks for sharing this awesome info at the right time!

      • Yes, this is the first time I hear about this. In fact I didn’t know there are any tools available for chrome. I have always been a Firefox user and switched to chrome recently. I’m getting used to it and this article would really save my time. Keep up the good work RG!

        • Hello Karthik, That’s great glad you switch over to Google chrome there’s a big difference between Firefox and Chrome.

I used Firefox for a few years but was introduced to Google chrome and seeing I love Google, decided to give it a try is was a good choice.

Thanks so much for your feedback it’s nice to know what other bloggers are using.

Have a great day my friend.

  4. Great article. I think it’s better a program for the entire OS, instead of an extension for the browser…outlook, notes, other browsers…etc. could be good reasons. And an extension for windows is more powerful.

Autohotkey (mentioned upper) is nice, but for me it has a GUI as harder as an entire month into the desert with no drink.
I use instead HotkeyP. Portable, so lightweight and lovely powerful!!!

    • Hello John, Glad you enjoy the post, I find using this extension help cut a lot of time and allows me to complete other task.

I have been using it for about a year now and have had not problems at all. The best thing I like about it is there is no limit to how many text boxes you can add.

Is this your first time seeing this tool for Google Chrome?

Thanks so much for your comment my friend have a great day.

  5. Hey Rob,

It’s a very cool extension and never heard of it before mate :)

Well, I’m using Google Chrome :) I agree on using pre-fetched text to express gratitude on Twitter. How about birthday wishes on Facebook? ;) That’s much better to use with emails too, instead of having draft posts after all. I can think of many uses online and offline too Rob. Especially for businesses :)

However may be it’s just me, that I don’t like seeing same message over and over when it comes to some situations Rob :) You know I read comments on blog posts if I have time and when I see same type of message as a reply like “Thank you and come again”, I feels like it’s an automated process and just replying because it has to :) I tend to differentiate a little when sending thanks on social networks too as it’s visible to many folks. Consume a bit of time but I think it creates a good impression to feels it kinda personal. What do you think about it mate? ;) I can see you don’t use the same message when commenting too.

I’d like to know where you use it the most mate :)

I just installed and gonna check out myself where else I can use it mate :) Thanks for sharing about this extension and gonna help a lot of folks for sure.

    Cheers…

  8. Hi Rob,

Aw – and I thought you were offering me some popcorn – now that I like!

I do use Google Chrome and the extensions are great – I find they freeze occasionally, but just deactivating and reactivating them seems to sort that.

I haven’t tried this one and share Mayura, Adrienne and Jan’s reservations about using pre-written comments, so I’m not sure if it’s for me – I’m sure other people may find it helpful, though, so thanks for the share!

I have never been able to get the PopChrome to work. I desperately need it to work. I have all sorts of abbreviations entered and saved but the CONTROL+SPACE BAR has never gotten the expanded text inserted. Any suggestions?

The answer really is that I haven’t used it since it has never worked. I have had it installed for months. I have used Text Expander in the Mac environment with great success. I decided to go with the Chrome Book for my own reasons, and am now using the Chrome Book Pixl. I have never been able to get the abbreviations which the default program provides to expand or my own abbreviations. I assumed that you hold down the CTRL key and then press the Space Bar to get the expansion. Never worked for me. And I tried changing the key combination without success.
