How to Publish Weekly And Keep Your Readers Aroused And Interested

You're AWESOME! for sharing my post? Thank you so much.

How-Often

A few weeks ago I started writing an article that was vital to us as bloggers, but never published it. It was concerning how often should you create and publish your content.

Although many people say posting frequently is the best way to improve traffic, increase readership, and rank high in Google search engines, this may not always be the case and may harm your blog in other ways, KEEP READING .

This question have been ask by many and I’m still not sure what many of you think is the correct answer and appropriate number of articles that should be published and how often.

They’re many things that have to be taken in to consideration when creating and publishing your content. Time is the biggest factor and plays a key roll in publishing.

How often should you publish your content?

Depending on your situation and the demand for your content is I would have to say
everyone has a different reason why they publish their content at different times and days of the week.

Did you realize that you should take in to consideration how well your blog or website is performing? That’s right. If your blog is not generating enough readerships then by publishing to often you may not be giving your new and potential, readers enough time to read your content.

Example: Weekly content publishing:

For me publishing once a week is more then enough and for the most part fairly easy to maintain. During the week I have time to choose a topic and also start writing some of my content down for later publishing. I always try to be ready at all times.

My posting schedule is primarily on Saturdays or maybe even Sundays, depending how busy I am, but you can be sure I will be posting at least one article each week for my readers.

Seven days is a reasonable amount of time to allow your readers to brows your9 to 5 job website, read your articles and even comment.

Remember most people have a 9 to 5, jobs and don’t have a lot of time on their hands to read blog post let a lone commenting.

By post multi times a week will interfere with people finding your content and maybe even gaining a new reader or subscriber.

 Give your readers enough time:

Are you giving your readers enough time to visit your blog and read your important article that you’ve spent so much time creating  just for them?

Don’tPile-of-Books bury your post by creating a large numbers of articles each week because most people that visit your blog will only search for article recently posted and may miss out on reading your content.

Is there such a thing as publishing to much? You bet it is, some may even consider it a form of spam if you have subscribers on your list and may not even take the time to read your post.

Think about it for a moment, you publish one, two, or maybe even three time a week, how would anyone be able to keep up with reading your content if they have a busy work schedule.

Remember if your website or blog, is not getting enough readers or traffic, then why publish daily or twice a week, it may only hurt your blog because your visitors might be  missing out on your content because your old post will just get pushed to the bottom of the pile.

Working for an industry were you would be expected to produce articles daily would be a different situation because people read news papers and other articles everyday, but! Your blog may not be receiving the same amount of traffic as a larger website and therefore your visitors will be missing out on your content.

How often should you publish your articles?

1- By Weekly?

2- Twice a week or more?

3- Every two weeks?

4- Once a month

My question to you would be what is a reasonable amount of content that should be published and how often should you publish it?

  1. Hi Rob,

Answer: My posting frequency is one or twice per week ;)

You are resonate with my idea on posting schedule mate :) Well, I don’t say mine is best ’cause as you implied it depends on many factors.

Obviously posting daily improves traffic and mind you, not comments ;) Some folks fall for the fact that traffic is # of comments. There are many readers out there who needs something fresh everyday and they are just reading and leave it as soon as they done with it. Some might start engaging. If you are able to keep the consistency about 4 – 5 months, you will get the audience that keep up with your content and visit the blog naturally. Well, you need to post daily and see yourself ;)

I used to do that in first days, but it made me think about my audience. Also I was getting busy later on too. Mostly my readers are busy enough with their own work, blogging etc. So I leave some room for ‘em to come visit my blog instead of confusing with bunch of posts to read and I can see improvement of comments in that way too ;) We will get to know the balance of posting frequency over time.

If you ask me, now I’m not free enough to read one blog or website everyday ;) As a reader, my vote goes for max of twice a week ’cause I do read 3x blogs than I used to read before 6 months. Finding balance as we move on ;)

Have a fantabulous week Rob ;)

    Cheers…

    • Hello Mayura, great reply indeed. As you stated most other bloggers are also creating content, publishing and so on.

That brings us to the question are we giving our readers enough time to visit our blog and allow them to respond in a reasonable manner?

I been trying to visit more and more, blogs to help improve engaging which is working out very well.

I think 4 to 5, times a month is a good number for posting as you stated because it will give people enough time to visit and connect with you.

So how is your writing schedule working out for you?

Thanks so much for the comment my friend it’s a pleasure to hear what you think. Have a great day.

  4. Great topic. I would also agree it depends on the person. I personally have a guest post featured on Mondays and post my own posts on Wed. and Fri. My goal for the two posts is to have them clear, to the point, and practical. My goal this year is to write at least one guest post a month for a different blog.

I find myself busy between writing my weekly posts, a book, growing my platform in different ways (coaching and speaking), work, and family. I have thought about writing more posts each week and the benefits it would bring but fear burning out or becoming inconsistent in my posting.

    • Hello Dan sounds like you have it together, I can surly understand about burning out that’s why I post at least once a weekly it seems to work just fine for me.

As long as you have some sort of schedule it makes publishing much easier because you have set a side some valuable writing time and that’s what it’s all about.

Do you know how many people ask me how can they improve their content and build readership, then when I visit their blogs guess what? they have written a blog post for over a month.

That’s no way to maintain a blog you’re setting your self up for failure if that’s how you manage your blog.

So how is your writing schedule working out for you?

Thanks so much for stopping by Dan it’s always a pleasure.

  5. Hey Rob,

Ah, that golden topic of how often should you write. So when I started blogging I was writing three times a week religiously. About a year and a half into blogging I created a second blog for a course I was taking. On that one I blogged once a week. I also started really learning how to drive traffic to my blogs so I knocked my main one back to twice a week.

I got just as much traffic and interaction on both blogs posting once and twice a week. It depends on if you’re being consistent not only with the posting but driving traffic to your blog as well. As we both know, commenting is one of those sources that can really help tremendously so that’s exactly what I was doing for both.

I think like you mentioned, it depends on how much time each individual has to spend and never ever do something you don’t have time for.

Great topic and one that everyone has a say about.

    Enjoy your week.

  6. Hi Rob,
I post once a week. Sometimes twice if I have a guest blogger or if I’m doing a series. In January I joined a 30 day blogging challenge just to see for myself if my blog would do better that way. Well, two weeks into it I found that my readers were confused, I was getting those one liner comments, and I just wasn’t comfortable with the whole thing.

I know there are many different ideas of how many times we should post per week, but I believe it comes down to each individual. Personally, I found myself doing nothing else but blogging, answering comments, going to other blogs and commenting back. It was counter-productive for me.

I was neglecting my list, lost creativity, and felt like a slave to my blog. In business, there are many other things to do beside blogging. So for me, it is once or twice per week.

  7. Hi Rob,
There are two main factors (sometimes three) that determine how often one should post a new article
1 The subjects you choose: if you limit yourself to one niche there’s only so much you can write about the subject.
2 What’s going on in the world around you. If there’s not much going on about the subject you’re focusing on, there is not really much to write about.
    3. Time. You need time to do a thorough research about what you are going to write about.
4 Time. How much time do you really HAVE to blog. Working 6 days a week, 10 hrs a day does not help much in your blogging creativity… (as I am doing now, lol)

As for running out of things to write about in your niche I think there will always something to write up if we dig enough.

I just feel for most f us having a time frame when we publish is vital and we all need it to be ,ore productive.

      • I try to do one post per week, preferably two. *Usually* I post just before the weekend and on Tuesday – if possible. That seems to work the best for me, because my main target area is the US and there is this 6 to 9 hours time difference.
Weekends are ok – visitors wise – and the Wednesdays are good days. And yes, there’s always something to write about. One time I did a post in 2 hours because of a twitter about go-daddy going down and the uproar about ‘lost blogs’. It turned out to be a good post in the end…

RGoss recently posted…How to Publish Weekly And Keep Your Readers Aroused And Interested My Profile

  8. Hi Rob,

I don’t really have a schedule how often do I post a week. Whenever I have something to say I would post it. But, you made a good point here. Now that you mentioned this, once a week is prolly sufficient.

I have been wanting to target to read at least 5 blogs a day then make a comment afterwards. To me, reading a blog can take so much time. But like Adrienne have advice me, one of the way to increase traffic to your blog is, read other people’s blog and leave a comment. Since this takes a lot of time, I like your idea of posting once a week; this will give me plenty of time to read more blogs a day and this will give me more time to write a good article for my blog.

    Once a week is good…

When I just started blogging, this guy asked me, “How often are you going to post in your blog? This is the time when I was just trying to build Health Matters. I said, “I dunno.” Should it be once a week or bi-weekly I dunno. Then he said, “It should be everyday so you can rank better on search engine.” Well, I didn’t know any better. Since I thought he has a writing agency, so I believed him. And I thought for awhile that’s the way to go too. That’s the way to get found in Google search engine. And if I rank high on Google, perhaps Google Adsense will approve my application.

    But you know…

After reading more on Adrienne’s blog, after reading on what Steve Scott’s have to say regarding affiliate marketing, and after talking to Adrienne LIVE on the phone, my perspective on Google Adsense changed. I am no longer targeting to be noticed by Google Adsense. I am concentrating more on quality content. And it’s hard to build quality content when you update everyday. Sometimes, what you have to say may need a little more research just in case people starts asking you questions, you can back up your answers with facts.

Anyway, I love your post. Thanks for a great advice!

I think we have to take it one step at a time and focus on building up a good blog so people can come and read our content first.

Leaveing time for your self is also a good idea because you don’t want to overwhelm yourself with to much to do online because it won’t be much fun any more.

So how is your writing schedule working out for you?

  9. Rob, great topic here. I used to blog daily and now I find 2x per week is good. When I did daily it did not leave enough time to comment on other blogs or share on various social media platforms.
I try to publish on Monday and one other day. It really depends if I have a topic worth blogging on and how much time with full time job and other websites I run. I’ve found once you gain traction 2x per week is great. I do 1x per week on my other blogs that are not in this niche and don’t need the frequency like here. Jan really summed it up well for me too :)

I started blogging about 3 months ago and since I started I publish twice a week on schedule but what you said here is very true. We have to leave time between posts to give our readers the time to come and read and comment. It’s very time consuming. As it is not only about just putting content haphazardly out there . You need to study and research whatever subject you want to blog about and this I find also very time consuming. Now, you got me thinking to dropping it to once a week as it is really consuming my time and I am a mother of 3 and I have a very busy household.

  11. Rob! What a great post :-)

Like Angela, I was “taught” that I should be blogging daily and, as I have my health blogs as well as this online business blog, it was all getting too much, even though I had cut 5 times a week down to 3 times a week for this blog. And of course, my health blogs were suffering from neglect, with obvious consequences.

Last week I decided to cut down posting to my IM blog to, maybe, once or twice a week, BUT use up the saved time posting to my health blogs. However, I was seeing that as a defeat.

Reading your article it makes so much sense and I can feel much more positive about my decision. Thanks for spelling it out so well. Joy

I see to many people trying earn extra revenue by running multi websites only to find out you don’t really need more then one website to be successful.

All that time and afford, you put into managing more then one blog should be diverted to your main blog in order to archive your goals.

Not only will it feel like a bolder has been lifted off your back but it will allow you to create some great content and build your readership and that’s what we all really want right?

Then you can promote any ideas you might have in mind as your products.

Publishing once or twice, a week is more then enough because you’re producing content weekly and will keep your readers coming back. Anything more then that will just burn you out and blogging won’t be as much fun.

Then you will see thing start changing and your readers will help support you and the content you publish.

Thanks so much Joy for stopping by if there’s anything I can do to help you please let me know. Have a wonderful day.

    Great Post!

I fully subscribe to your view point and there are no differences of opinion so far as the time you are giving to your readers is concerned. I’m publishing once in a week and I fully adhere to your theory.

Now whenever I go to my Google analytics and check the traffic, the organic traffic is really driving the blog, I could clearly make out that there are many who are coming from google search as well, this is over and above regular readers who really make the blog lively. So this really makes me think whether I’m giving justice to the fact that I should increase the frequency. Your thoughts?

    Thanks Rob for this share.

But any blog that’s not getting visitors to stop and engage, with their blog should not publish more then normally because it will not help their blog.

It’s very important for us to engage with other bloggers in order to build readership and increase our traffic.

Ask your self this, what’s really important for you and your blog? and go down the list one at a time and things will pick up.

Readership should be at the top of the list.

I started a blog recently and I am working on a single post for 4 to 5 days writing and improving it then visitors may come and go but may not return then I think my frequency should be more.

But until I gain some loyal readers I think I need not concentrate on the post frequency but keep my articles coming at my own comfort rather than rushing. If I rush too fast then I might sacrifice the quality.

It’s great to see you again, I know trying to get a routine down is no easy task sometimes but it is a very important element when it come to blogging because if you don’t have a time frame when your next post will be your readers will be lost and may move on to the next blog.

Try picking the quietest time to create your content this way you will be able to focus more and be productive.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment it means a lot to me. I hope you have a wonderful day.

  23. Thanks for sharing your insights. I believe you are taking the right step, as the web is interconnected. The more you socialize and interconnect, the more you will get in return. So I commend your decision and wish you all the best!

    • Hi John, You are correct about making those connections you have to at least make an effort.

I think that’s were most people fail and don’t realize how important it is to interact.

Thank so much for stopping by it’s always a pleasure.

  24. I have two blogs and in one I post Twice a week or more but in Tech blog I need to post atleast one article per day.So the posting frequency largely depends on type of niche you are blogging.

    • Hello Vivek, It sounds like you have your job cut out for you. Yes it would depend on your niche also because some topics require you to gather more information then others.

I think if you have the time to post more then once a week that’s just find, but most of us in the real world don’t have that much time and for that we have to spread our time accordingly.

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by it;s always a pleasure.

  26. Hello Mr. Rob
This is my first time on your blog, I found your name on Joy Healy’s blog.
I am one of the new kids on the block in the blogging world, but I have had wonderful people to encourage me, inspire and motivate me. My platter is full, so I can only write content once a week. I am realizing how much work it takes to be on cyberspace. It is not just creating content, but making sure we comment on those bloggers whoi have taken time to write on my blog. Then comes the social media…. wow… it takes so much time.

Thank you for your knowledge on paper.

  27. Hey Robert,

This is a great post. It is my first time on your site and I have bookmarked you so looking to read more of your content. My usual schedule is to post a new blog once a week, for me that is usually mid week. I think it is really important to have some kind of schedule and frequency. I also do a monthly newsletter which capture my blog posts for the month which again, is another great way to get more eyeballs on your content.

However, every quarter I also host a blog post challenge, which challenges people to try their best and create daily content. This is really more about getting people into the habit and learning the disciplines and it has been particularly helpful for new bloggers to get content on their blogs quickly.

I look forward to coming back here,

    Beth :)

It sound like you have a great routine already and that’s a great starting point.

You have to be consistent and that’s were most bloggers fail because they think it’s not important to engage and produce content on a regular bases.

Thank you so much for book marking me I hope I can live up to your expectations.

Have a wonderful day Beth I would surely be visiting your blog as well.
